Breast Reconstruction

Reconstruction of a breast that has been removed due to cancer or other disease is one the most rewarding surgical procedures available today. New medical techniques and devices have made it possible for surgeons to create abreast that can come close in form and appearance to matching a natural breast. Frequently, reconstruction is possible immediately following breast removal (mastectomy), so the patient wakes up with a breast mound already in place, having been spared the experience of seeing herself with no breast at all.

Bear in mind, post-mastectomy breast reconstruction is not a simple procedure. There are often many options to consider as you and your doctor explore what is best for you. Many options are available and the best way to get complete answers to specific questions that relate to your individual needs is to have a personal consultation with a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  Click to learn more.

Breast Lift : Mastopexy

Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing and the force of gravity take their toll on a woman’s breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag.

Breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts-at least, for a time. (No surgery can permanently delay the effects of gravity.) Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If your breasts are small or have lost volume – for example, after pregnancy- breast implants inserted in conjunction with mastopexy can increase both their firmness and their size.  Click to learn more.

Chest Wall Reconstruction

Chest wall reconstruction presents many challenges to repair the deformity. Dr. Pousti has considerable experience using both pectoral implants and breast implants in both men and women to improve the appearance of the chest wall for patients with pectoralis excavatum.

For male patients, Dr. Pousti found that custom made solid pectoral implants made specifically for the area of depression is an impressive option for a better cosmetic result. Pectoralis implants can be used to augment the male chest wall. Nipple-Areola Repair

Areola Reduction, nipple reduction and inverted nipple repair are rarely thought of when patients consider enhancing the breasts. For some patients, they not only want the breast size taken care of, but also have concerns regarding their nipple and/or areola– the nipple is the projected part and the areola is the dark pigmented skin that surrounds the nipple. Patients are happy to hear it’s a simple procedure to enhance the nipple/areola. Whether the nipple is inverted, too big or protruding too far, Dr. Pousti can assist you with correction.  Click to learn more.

Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is defined as the visible or palpable development of breast tissue in boys or men. Gynecomastia is a condition in which males develop enlargement of the breast. This is quite common in adolescents and is often first noted at the onset of puberty. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40% to 60% of men. It may affect only one breast or both. When gynecomastia is severe, when it persists, and in those cases where there is suspicion of malignancy surgical treatment may be indicated. For men who feel self-conscious about their appearance, breast-reduction surgery can help. The procedure removes fat and or glandular tissue from the breasts, and in extreme cases removes excess skin, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured. In most cases, the incisions for this operation can be placed just inside the areolar border where they are less likely to be conspicuous. Click to learn more.
